Welcome
Today families are faced with the many challenges of our modern, complex world. American Jewish families inhabit a landscape significantly different than that of previous generations. Though the picture of the family unit has changed dramatically, the essential role of family remains fundamentally the same!
Washington Hebrew understands that within our congregational community, families are ever more diverse and are increasingly confronted by enormous social and human service needs. The Edlavitch-Tyser Family Relations Forum has developed programs addressing contemporary issues confronting the family such as marriage transitions, the changing lives of women, interfaith parenting, struggles our youth face and growing up in an age of AIDS. We recognize that we not only need the support of family, but also the support of a caring community.
Connecting with the ever-growing needs and interests of our members has always been of paramount importance. The Forum, which has achieved national recognition since it was established in 1980, continues to reflect commitment to the legacy embodied in its establishment- a strong sense of community and a promise to address the challenges faced by today's children and adults.

About the Series
The Edlavitch-Tyser Family Relations Forum, established in 1980 in honor of the birth of a grandchild, provides a unique platform to address a vast variety of issues and concerns confronting the contemporary family. This endowment permits our Congregation to offer numerous programs for family members of every age including young children, adolescents, teenagers, singles, married couples and mature adults.
Selma Tyser Edlavitch was an distinguished community volunteer whose generosity had a tremendous impact on Washington area families. A graduate of Towson State University, she was an elementary school teacher, business person, and fundraiser for numerous organizations serving children and families.
